A speed radar sign

A speed radar sign has been requested for Ballyruin, near Ballyroan village in Laois, to slow down traffic.

Fine Gael Cllr Barry Walsh tabled a motion to the December meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District asking Laois County Council to install the sign, near Ballyruin Lane.

“It’s a very busy road. Residents of some houses came to me to say they find it difficult to get out at times because of the speed of the traffic. It would help to slow traffic coming into the village from further back,” he said.

In reply, senior engineer Paul McLoughlin said that the location will be assessed for the sign and if required, funding will be sought.

At the same meeting Cllr Walsh also tabled a motion to grit the road to the village's primary school, which was turned down.
