Laois TD Brian Stanley says part of a local village is "in complete darkness" causing danger for pedestrians, drivers and cyclists.
The former Sinn Féin party member who now describes himself as an Independent Republican TD, has highlighted a situation in Castletown village outside Mountrath.
“The Junction at the Mountrath end of Castletown urgently needs public lighting. The Junction at the Mountrath end of the village is in complete darkness and this poses a real danger for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists.
“In contrast, the junction at the Pike of Rushall end of the village is very well lit up.
“Numerous residents have complained to me about this. I have raised the matter with Laois County Council. The County Council have now surveyed this area and agree that public lighting is badly needed there," Deputy Stanley said in a statement on Thursday, January 23.
“Progress has now been made. Works carried out to date include: A full Topographical Survey completed. Lighting Design Completed. Quotation requested from Lighting Contractor.
“I am anxious that adequate lighting is erected in the vicinity of this junction and that it is made safe for the residents of Castletown. I will be pursuing this further with Laois County Council,” Dep Stanley said.
