Rainwater causing Laois road to 'unravel' past rural church

Locals fear climate change will worsen weather damage

Rainwater causing Laois road to 'unravel' next to rural church

Heavy rain is causing a Laois rural road to "unravel" on both sides with climate change raising fear of further damage for locals.

Portlaoise Municipal District councillor Barry Walsh is asking Laois County Council to fix the road past Knock Church at Graiguenahown in Spink.

He tabled a motion to their May meeting, where he described how bad it is getting for motorists.

"This is a section on a hill. Water is coming down in heavy rain. We know the damage that can do. The road is unravelling on both sides. Residents are concerned that it will get worse with the heavy rain from climate change. It's definitely coming," he said.
