Pothole repairs are a washout for a Laois councillor who wants a "proper" job done for housing estates in her area.

Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley is asking Laois County Council to repair the road surface at two junctions in Portlaoise.

One is the entrance to Treo Nua family resource centre and Hillview Drive, in Knockmay. The other is the junction between Cherrygrove and Hillview Drive.

She noted that work had already begun at the first area but pushed for more, speaking as she tabled a motion on the matter to the June meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

"Some of the potholes are filled at the entrance but further into Cherrygrove the road surface is very bad. Another in Cloorooske where we have a CIS funding application which I hope will address it.

"When holes like that are filled, it's only a matter of time before the rain washes them out again. Perhaps next year you can put them in the roads programme. I acknowledge the great work by residents and Treo Nua management. I am chair of the Treo Nua Centre. I see first hand the hard work that goes on by Joan and her staff. Maybe next year you can put a proper layer on," she said.

Cllr Marie Tuohy seconded the motion.

"Treo Nua and the family resource centre are great for the community with the services they provide," she said.

In reply, Portlaoise Municipal District officials agreed to do repairs at both locations.
