Yellow box requested for Portlaoise estate 'choked' by traffic

A Laois housing estate is suffering the effects of motorists taking a shortcut past their entrance.

Residents in Esker Hills in Portlaoise are frustrated says Cllr Tommy Mulligan.

He has tabled a motion to the Portlaoise Municipal District asking for a yellow box to be painted on the entrance road, which is off a roundabout on the Ridge Road.

"There is a huge increase in the volume of traffic coming back from the shortcut at Crookedy. People have difficulty leaving the estate. Traffic is choked up. There is a lot of frustration with residents," he said.

Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley seconded.

"There is a problem coming out. I'd like to see something done to address that," she said.

The area engineer Wes Wilkinson will meet Cllr Mulligan on site to examine the local road at the entrance to the estate.
