Traffic delays in busy Portlaoise area as month-long work gets underway

There was traffic chaos in a busy Portlaoise area on Wednesday during the morning rush hour as month-long road works started.

Traffic was backed up and delayed on the Ridge Road in Portlaoise as roadworks began at the turn for the Leisure Centre towards St Brigid's Place.

Irish Water is replacing leaky old water mains at Parkview and St Brigid’s Place, Portlaoise. The work is set to last over a month and is due to be completed in May.

Around 344 metres of aged cast iron, problematic water mains will be replaced with high-density polyethene (plastic) pipes.

As for disturbance to supply the company says works may involve some short-term water shut-offs but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs.
