Council warn motorists of substantial Edenderry road works

The road network in county Laois will be improved thanks to a national investment of €136m for road safety schemes according to Laois TD and Minister for Justice & Equality, Charlie Flanagan.

Speaking from Leinster House this morning, Minister Flanagan stated

“I’m delighted that this much-needed finance could be secured. Constant work is needed on our transport links and a clear sign of a prosperous economy is a very busy road network.

“That is what we have here in Laois and the N80 Maidenhead at Arles on the main Carlow/Portlaoise Road is a vital link for commuters and all using in their daily business," he said

Minister for Transport Shane Ross visited Laois a number of weeks ago and Minister Flanagan said he impressed upon him the importance of providing funding for this section of road which has claimed lives in recent years.

“I will continue to make every effort to ensure that all our roads are kept to the safest possible standard. Everyone must continue to exercise due care when using the road network, particularly in the recent inclement weather and the Government is committed to assisting with this,” he said.

Minister Flanagan he condition of our roads is an important factor in preventing crashes and saving lives. He said he was dedicated to improving road safety in whatever way possible, whether through legislation, education or road maintenance.

"I am delighted to see TII making this funding commitment to safety improvements across the country,” he said.
