'Huge amount of lorries and buses' on Laois road from Emo to Mountmellick

A junction on the main Laois road from the motorway to Mountmellick is to have road markings repainted.
The R422 between Emo and Mountmellick gets "a huge amount of lorries and buses," says Cllr Willie Aird.
He has requested Laois County Council to repaint a junction towards Knightstown and Killeen asking motorists to slow down.
"You have this on the Meelick Ballyroan road. Markings asking drivers to reduce speed. There are houses on the left hand side all the way up this road," he said.
Cllr Barry Walsh seconded Cllr Aird's motion.
It asked the council to install traffic calming measures on the main road at the junction, and along the L21332 side road into Knightstown too.
In reply, engineer Wes Wilkinson said that the junction will be examined for the installation of road markings to improve safety.
