A Laois fundraising volunteer Alice Culliton, known for her commitment to worldwide humanitarian causes, is stepping up once again for Christmas 2024 to help those in Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon, Africa and all peoples hit with conflict and hunger.

Having worked with Concern Worldwide in some of the world’s most challenging humanitarian situations for over 20 years, retired teacher Alice Culliton from Mountmellick has again felt compelled to take action.

Alice is set to undertake Concern's annual 24-hour fast again this year, on Election Day, Friday November 29 2024.

"The extreme poverty and the devastation of people's lives is more than ever and in need of Concern's work," Alice says.

"Please consider sponsoring me to help Concern Worldwide scale up its response to provide increased support to millions of people who are facing extreme hunger because of conflict and climate change.

"This strikes a chord with me as I worked for a time in Ethiopia about four decades ago. I worked in the feeding camp at Harbo from 1994 to 1995, so I know first-hand the hardship and devastating impact severe food insecurity can have for millions of people. I would really appreciate it if you can get behind me with a donation to help Concern continue this life saving work".

Concern praised Alice for her dedication last year when she was again preparing to fast.

"With the ever-growing need for humanitarian work worldwide, Alice’s commitment serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring the community to come together in solidarity and make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing insurmountable challenges.

"Alice’s fundraising endeavours aim to provide essential support, including cash transfers, to empower families to weather the challenges posed by the relentless climate shocks. These transfers not only assist in managing the escalating food prices but also offer families the dignity of purchasing what they need most to sustain themselves and their children.

"Every contribution, no matter how small, holds the potential to transform lives and foster resilience in the face of unparalleled challenges," a Concern spokesperson said.

89.9c of every €1 goes directly towards Concern's goal of ending extreme poverty.
