Mountmellick Macra na Feirme have secured a place in the All Ireland Capers finals after taking to the stage this weekend.
On Saturday, January 11 the Macra members competed against five other teams to secure their place in the finals on February 1.
Capers is a 20 minute variety show featuring comedy, dance, poetry and often topical issues from the news. The 14 strong cast opened the semi final in Graiguenamanagh, Co.Kilkenny with amazing energy setting the tone for the rest of the night.
Their show is titled 'Un-laois'd: the Olympic Dream', the pieces in it reflect the title through sport comedy, poetry about achieving peace, instrumental pieces and much much more.
The Team comprises: Nathan Flanagan; Aoife Oxley; Michéal Kilheeny; Alanah Conroy; Katelyn Dempsey; Ciara Hennessy; Sorcha Hartnett; Aoife Mallon; Kellie Fox; Zoe Dempsey; Niamh Feighery; Conan Kirwan; Sophie Ahern and Sue Le Blanc Meredith.
The producers were Colette Cashin and AC Reynolds and the choreographer was Louise Ahern. Backstage members included Chris Joyce, Joanne Teehan and Kevin Scott. Lighting was by Larry Ryan and sound by Amy Strong.
On the night they won best act for their performance of "The impossible dream" song.
"This variety show, although only 20 minutes, features 13 acts with super quick costume changes," said Mountmellick Macra.
"They now represent Laois in the All Ireland final on 1st February in Mountmellick Arts centre, all support is greatly appreciated. Six teams will compete in the final, an absolutely brilliant night's entertainment lies ahead."
