A Laois town is facing six weeks of traffic disruption, which has forced the Townlink bus service between Portlaoise and Tullamore to announce a temporary change to its stops.

From Monday, June 7, there will be a one-way stop go traffic light system in place in Mountmellick.

It is on Parnell Street, from the roundabout at Lord Edward Street and Mountmellick Local Pharmacy, right up to the N80 junction at Glanbia.

Traffic will be diverted off the main street via Connolly Street and Irishtown, shown in a map, below.

The system is to facilitate mains waterworks by Uisce Éireann.

They will last for four to six weeks and the one way system will be closed for about four weeks of that time.

Slieve Bloom Coaches' Townlink service will be avoiding its bus stops at the church and SuperValu for the duration.

"We have been notified of a one way road closure between Super Valu and Glanbia starting on the 9th of June for 4-6 weeks for water main works. This will restrict us picking up at Supervalu and the Church on the outbound to tullamore only.

"Inbound from Tullamore to Portlaoise stops are not affected. The bus will come from portlaoise straight to O Connell square for the duration of these works. Please take note of this change," the Townlink service says.

The notice they shared states that:

"The proposed Diversion route and outline detail for the one-way closure of Parnell St., Mountmellick on the North Eastbound direction (toward Tullamore). These works are expected to take 4 to 6 weeks, all going well, and the lane would be closed for about 4 weeks of that time, starting on the 9th June (subject to change)”.
