A Laois soccer club is set to host a very important information meeting on Friday night, February 27 when they will unveil a major fundraiser along with their exciting redevelopment plans.

Mountmellick United FC will host Mountmellick Goes to Hollywood on October 12 and is urging the public to attend Friday's event to see how they can get involved.

"Our flagship fundraising event for the year is coming — and it’s going to be a great night. Think big movie moments, local stars, plenty of laughs and a fantastic community atmosphere, all in support of Mountmellick United’s exciting redevelopment plans," said the club.

The information night will take place in the CYMS at 8pm and light refreshments will be served. CONTINUE READING BELOW

"On the night, you’ll hear from our event organisers and club committee members as they outline our exciting plans for this major fundraiser, share how the community can get involved and highlight where we need your support," the club said.

"Come along, get informed, and be part of something special!"

As well as unveiling the Mountmellick Goes To Hollywood fundraiser the committee will unveil plans for the redevelopment of Smiths Field and Conor Davis Park and the connection between the two sites.

Last year planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of Smith’s Field into a multi-purpose community sports ground. This marked a significant step forward for the  club after years of dedication and planning by its committee.

The approved development includes a full-sized Astro-turf playing pitch, walking tracks, pathways, associated groundworks, and floodlighting. The project will not only improve sporting facilities but also provide a crucial link between two sides of the town, making it easier for residents to navigate between The Harbour and the Tullamore Road.

This week the club has also submitted a planning application to replace an existing grass pitch with a new astro turf playing surface, new perimeter fencing to the pitch, new pitch lighting, including six 12 metre high posts and all associated site works at Conor Davis Park.
