A Laois Tidy Towns group has appealed to the public for consideration, after their carefully planted daffodils were uprooted and destroyed.

While the destruction of the flowers disappointed many, the following actions from Laois locals showed that kindness prevails.

Mountmellick Tidy Towns had recently planted daffodils in planters by the church, and were disappointed to find them pulled from the planters and thrown on the ground.

"And so it begins a little earlier than we'd hoped but someone decided last night that the daffodils at the church would look better on the ground!" the group said.

"If you're bored and have some time to spare we'd happily love your help but if not please, please stop and think about the small committee who are working tirelessly to make our town look good," they hit out.

Local man Liam McEvoy kindly cleaned up the mess made on the footpath, and the Tidy Towns group wished to thank him for his assistance.

Along with Liam's assistance in cleaning up the mess, an act of kindness from a good samaritan has lifted the spirits of committee members and Mountmellick locals.

A member of the community planted stunning pansies in flower pots and flower boxes locally. The Tidy Towns committee do not know who is responsible for this thoughtful act, and wished to thank them for their generosity.

"It's lovely to be able to post a good news story. We'd like to thank the mystery plant fairy who put some lovely flowers into the pots on the railings at the convent bridge & in the pot near Healion's," the Tidy Towns group said.

"It made us feel so good & appreciated, you've lifted our spirits. Thank you whoever you are."

While there are people who may uproot the carefully planted flowers, there are plenty more Laois locals who will kindly replant them, and plant more in the meantime too. Well done!
