Mountmellick Christmas street lights fundraising appeal

Mountmellick Christmas street lights fundraising appeal

Fundraiser for Mountmellick Christmas streetlights this weekend

While Mountmellick is most famed for its Christmas Tree and now its Christmas Fair, a wonderful accompaniment are the garlands of Christmas lights twinkling all along the main street.

The task of fundraising for the lights has been taken on by three local ladies, and this Friday November 24,  The Christmas Lights Committee of Maura Reddin, Rosemary Whelan and Ena Doody, are holding their fundraising collection in SuperValu Mountmellick.

"With your support & generosity we can ensure that the town is lit up to celebrate the festive season. All support is greatly appreciated," said chairperson Maura.

The ladies are also requesting for people to help them with the collection at SuperValu.

"The electricity costs for running the lights is in the region of €4,250 per year as the lights are connected to seven separate electricity boxes for safety reasons. Each electricity box is charged separately. The committee will publish a full breakdown of all income and expenditure after Christmas," Maura explained.

The lights are already hung up, thanks to CE Scheme workers and their supervisor Sharon Deering.

"All going well we hope to have the lights turned on on Friday December 1," said Rosemary.

If you have an hour to spare on Friday and want to help out, contact Maura on 087-9717192, Rosemary on 087 2726525 or Ena on 087-7927297.
