An announcement is to be made in Mountmellick this Friday morning, about funding to protect the town against further flooding.
Charlie Flanagan, Minister for Justice & Equality and Mr Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, Minister for State at the OPW & Flooding, are to speak at a press conference, this Friday February 9 at 9.30am.
It will take place in Mountmellick Civic Offices, on O’Moore St, Mountmellick, the Former Town Council Chamber.
The conference is likely to confirm funding for flood defences and flood walls for the town, estimated by Laois County Council CEO John Mulholland to cost up to €3 million.
Last November 22 2017, the town was hit with its worst flood in decades, with up to 100 homes and businesses affected by floodwater after the River Owenass and two smaller streams burst their banks.
