Super slimmers in Mountmellick have lost an impressive 1,050 stone in weight since opening its doors in 2013 – that’s the equivalent of 5 Ford Focus cars!

Together, the members of the towns Slimming World group are now 14,703.5lbs lighter than they were when Consultant Pam set up the group on July 30, 2013.

Members, who attend the group every week, follow Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plan created by the organisation’s team of expert nutritionists, which encourages them to fill up on satisfying foods such as pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat and fish, pulses and fruit and veg.

Ailish Dunne has lost 6 stone to drop from a size 22 to size 12 in just over one year.

“Filling up on lots of satisfying foods means you’re never hungry so I’ve never felt as though I was on a diet. Before I joined Slimming World I thought losing weight meant counting calories. But now I know it’s about making healthier choices about food.

“Reaching this milestone as a group just proves the huge change that we’ve all made to our lives, some people who’ve lost big amounts of weight have probably even saved their lives. It’s brilliant to celebrate together as well because that’s how we’ve been losing weight – together. Every week we support and encourage each other and share tips and recipes, and on top of that we have a lot of funm,” says Ailish.

Consultant Pam, who has lost weight herself, understands the ups and downs of slimming.

“I’m delighted that my members have lost weight so beautifully. It has made a big difference to their lives and to their whole families’ lives, and all of them are happier and healthier now.

"Slimming has never been more important, as Ireland has the highest obesity levels in Europe. I just want to help even more people to make real changes for life – there’s no better job satisfaction than that!

“Many people don’t realise that 11-15 year olds can attend Slimming World groups free of charge when they come along with a guardian. For these young members it’s about arming them with knowledge to make healthier choices which is essential and equipping families to eat healthily and become more active is the key to a healthy future for our children,” says Pam.

With this in mind, Slimming World Mountmellick are having a BBQ at 6 pm on Tuesday July 31ST in The ICA House, Davitt Road, Mountmellick to show families just how easy it is to eat well on our plan. Any interested readers are welcome to attend our celebration, just let us know you’re coming.

Pam’s groups are held at 9:30am, 5:30pm & 7:30pm every Tuesday at The ICA House.
