Sadness in Laois at death of accordion bandmaster's daughter

There is sadness in Mountmellick, Portlaoise and across the county today, with the death of the eldest daughter of St Joseph's Accordion Band's bandmaster Peter Smith.

Linda Smith of 62 St Joseph's Terrace Mountmellick, passed away on Tuesday evening after bravely battling a long illness.

She is the eldest of seven children of Peter and Helen Smith, several of whom have followed in Peter's footsteps to play in the much loved Portlaoise accordion band.

Ms Smith died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at The Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore. She was a staff member of St Vincent's Hospital, Mountmellick.

She is sadly missed by her loving parents, Peter and Helen, her sisters Karen, Wendy and Debbie, her brothers Brian, Colm and Owen, nieces Jennifer, Ava, Kellie, Rebecca and Oonagh, nephews Conor, David, Brian, Cillian, Robert, Tadgh, Harry and Adam, sisters-in-law Louise Kelly and Mary McEvoy, relatives, family and a large circle of family and friends.

Remains will repose today, Wednesday August 8, in Moloney's Funeral Home from 6pm with Rosary at 9pm. Removal is on Thursday morning at 10.30am to St Joseph's Church Mountmellick, arriving for 11am requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in St Joseph's cemetery. House is requested private.
