Mountmellick, Laois wakes up to colourful yarnbombing

The entrance sign for Mountmellick bedecked in yarn creations

Mountmellick in Laois has been given another colourful bombing, by the talented crew at Yarn bombing Mountmellick.

The ladies helped by CE scheme workers, husbands and children, got working at 5am this Sunday morning, August 19, to decorate trees, bicycles and railings all around the town, with even a piano and a banshee added this year.

It is all for fun says founder Nina Horan.

"It's about bringing colour to the town, celebrating our strong history of textiles, and putting a smile on people's faces," she said.

Businesses and homeowners get behind the idea too,  decorating shop windows and gardens with knitted and crocheted creations.

"People are so supportive. We have followers in 41 countries now since winning the EPIC awards this year. This is our 5th year and it's been better than ever, manic," she said.
