Mountmellick in Laois is to get a state-of-the-art business hub, with a major grant awarded to fund it.

Mountmellick Development Association has successfully gained €218,200 funding to set up the Beale Centre for Business Excellence.

The facility will be a boost to local employment, with open plan hot desks, office pods, meeting, teleconferencing rooms and state of the art commercial kitchens.

Laois/Offaly TD and Minister for Justice & Equality, Charlie Flanagan has welcomed the funding allocation of €218,200 from the Regional Enterprise Development Fund.

“I am delighted that €218,200 has been allocated to the Mountmellick Development Association for the setting up of the Beale Centre for Business Excellence. This centre will be a state-of-the-art facility which will be the physical location in which the state agencies, 3rd level institutions and service providers work with people starting new and expanding existing businesses.”

“I want to congratulate Paddy Buggy, Manager of the MDA and the staff for their dedication to this project," he said.

Under the scheme, funding is allocated on a regional basis as opposed to a county basis to back projects that will have a big impact on enterprise development and sustainable job creation within and across entire regions.

It follows the addition of a new Family Resource Centre in the MDA last summer, with funding of €160,000 a year provided for that service to the local community.
