One of the longest serving firefighters in Laois has retired from duty

One of the longest serving firefighters in Laois County Fire and Rescue Service has retired after 34 years of duty.

Mountmellick man Dermot Healion joined the fire service in 1985 and has been driving the fire vehicle LS15A1 to incidents big and small ever since.

Laois County Fire and Rescue Service paid tribute to Mr Healion with a post on its Facebook page and many people have responded thanking him for his many years of dedicated service.

This picture was taken after one of the last calls Dermot (middle of back row) attended, along with personnel from Mountmellick, Portarlington, Portlaoise and HQ.

"Best wishes for the future to Dermot from all his colleagues," they said.
