Garda station reopens in Tallaght following security alert

Tallaght Garda station in Dublin has reopened following a security alert.

The station was evacuated on Friday following the discovery of a bag with suspicious contents.

The Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team examined the bag and contents.

They were removed for further technical and forensic examination before the station reopened on Friday evening.

A Garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, Gardai said officers had been on active patrol in the Tallaght area in south Dublin when they arrested a man.

When he was brought to the Garda station, an inspection of a bag he had with him indicated “contents of concern”, a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said after the alert: “A male in his 30s has been arrested and detained under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a South Dublin Garda Station.”
