The unemployment rate for males has risen slightly in the last month, latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.
In the last month, the unemployment rate has risen to 4.2% for males from a rate of 4.1% in May 2023 and June 2022.
However, the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.4% for females from the May 2023 rate, and down from a rate of 4.4% in June 2022.
There was also a slight increase, up to 7.4% for persons aged 15-24 years (youth unemployment rate), from a rate of 6.9% in May 2023.
It remains unchanged at 3.3% for persons aged 25-74 years, from the May 2023 rate.
Commenting on today’s release, Conor Delves, Statistician in the Labour Market Analysis Section, said: “The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 105,400 in June 2023, compared with 102,800 in May 2023. There was a decrease of 6,000 in the seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed in June 2023 when compared with a year earlier.
“The seasonally adjusted number of males unemployed was up to 61,800 in June 2023, compared with 59,800 in May 2023. In June 2023 the seasonally adjusted number of females unemployed increased to 43,600 from the 43,000 observed in May 2023.”
