The seaside town of Bray, Co Wicklow where singer Sinead O'Connor lived for 15 years became a site of pilgrimage on Tuesday for her funeral.
The life of the Irish singer was celebrated at a private ceremony before the funeral cortege travelled past her former home in Bray so fans could pay their respects before a private burial. Fans laid flowers and memorials and sang the star’s songs outside her former home as they waited for the cortege bearing the body of the 56-year-old who died on July 26.
As a private funeral service took place on Tuesday morning, the crowd of well-wishers gathered in Bray swelled until the Strand Road was lined along the route where the funeral cortege was due to travel.

President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar were in attendance, as were U2 star Bono and Bob Geldof, where Muslim funeral prayers were led by Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri.
Visitors from across the world along with locals, campaigners and those who simply love O’Connor’s music sang, wept and danced together as a Volkswagen camper van played some of her most powerful tracks as she departed Bray one final time.
