Almost 30 people have died on Irish roads in the past 30 days, Gardaí have confirmed.
An Garda Síochána released an appeal to road users to take care on the roads in the wake of a spike in fatalities in August.
According to Gardaí, 26 people have been killed on Irish roads within 30 days.
A statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, reads: "These people are young and old, from different places and backgrounds but all have lost their lives far too soon. We must all take care of ourselves and one another on our roads. Please share this message."
One hundred and fourteen fatal road collisions have been recorded so far in 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 124 people, including 44 motorists, 30 passengers, 27 pedestrians, 17 motorcyclists, 3 cyclists, and 3 e-scooters.
Gardaí have urged motorists to take care, stating on X: "Please be safe on Irish roads."
The latest collision occurred in Portlaoise, Co Laois yesterday (August 30) involving a car and a pedestrian in the Fairgreen residential area.
An infant girl (3 years old) was seriously injured during the collision and was pronounced deceased after being taken to Midland Regional Hospital.
