Revealed: where to get the cheapest petrol in Ireland as prices fell slightly last month

Increased supplies from Middle East may lead to cheaper prices at the pump

The price of petrol and diesel fell slightly last month after a rise in August, according to latest figures from AA Ireland.

You can now get a litre of petrol at Top Oil on the South City Link Road in Cork. This figure is matched at Circle K in Terenure and Kimmage and by Top Oil in Terenure and Campus on East Wall Road in Dublin 3.

The same Top Oil store in Cork has the cheapest diesel in the country, at 179.9c per litre, which is matched at Campus on the East Wall Road in Dublin. The figures are available on pumps.ie and are updated on a daily basis.

While petrol and diesel prices have fallen slightly in the last month, uncertainty in the Middle East has seen the price of oil rise again which could lead to higher prices at the pumps.

Figures from AA Ireland show that the price of petrol is down from €1.85 in September to €1.83 and diesel has fallen by one cent, down from €1.85 to €1.84 per litre.

September saw an increase of €0.15 per litre in petrol prices and an increase of €0.21 cent for diesel, mostly due to the second of Excise Duty restoration and an increase in the wholesale cost of fuel.

AA Ireland noted that although prices have eased slightly into October, they still remain well up  on May of this year when diesel averaged €1.47 per litre.

The decision by the government to delay the latest return of higher Excise Duties in this month's Budget helped to keep prices down somewhat.
