Pedestrian in his 70s killed in collision with lorry

A pedestrian in his 70s has died after a collision involving a lorry in Co Laois.

The incident happened in Chapel Lane, Mountmellick, at around 4.55pm on Monday.

The pedestrian was fatally injured. The male driver of the lorry did not need medical attention, gardai said.

The road was closed on Monday night pending a forensic examination of the scene, and local diversions were put in place.

Gardai have asked witnesses to come forward and for people with footage to make it available.
