Community rallies to help badly injured student who got hit by a car during Storm Jocelyn

People have rallied to help an exchange student who was badly injured after he got hit by a car during Storm Jocelyn.

Carlos Henrique, who works as a healthcare assistant, was on his way to visit a patient when he collided with a car in Dublin 13 during last week's storm.

"Our dear friend who is a Health Care Assistant was on his way to his last client on his bicycle at Grand Road in Baldoyle Dublin 13, near Apple Green when he spotted a car on the wrong side of the cycle path," said his friends.

They continued: "Unable to avoid it due to strong winds and rain, he collided with the car, only remembering being hit on the elbow and falling unconscious."

Carlos was taken to the hospital where he required surgery. He suffered from broken teeth, fractured sinuses as well as upper mouth and elbow bones.

"Two witnesses said the driver fled without providing assistance, and unfortunately, there were no cameras on-site to identify the car involved in the accident," his friends said on a GoFundMe page.

According to his friends, Carlo was discharged from the hospital on Friday, January 26. To help him cover for medical expenses, they have organised a fundraiser here

In a message to thank those who have contributed to the fundraiser, Carlos' friends commented: "Today, we want to express our deep gratitude to every generous heart that contributed to our online fundraiser, assisting our dear exchange student who faced an unexpected challenge here in Ireland. Words seem small in the face of the immense warmth and solidarity we have received. Each donation, message of support, and compassionate gesture has been like rays of light on our path, illuminating the challenging journey we face together."
