The late Stephen Kelly
Tributes are being paid after the death of an Irishman in a tragic accident in Spain last week.
Offaly native Stephen Kelly died on March 18 following an accident while on holiday in Spain. He was predeceased by his beloved father Kevin.
His RIP.ie notice says: "Stephen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving mother Brigid (née Quinn), sons Regan and Jack, their mother Mary, sisters Pamela, Ciara and Alanna, brother-in-law Paddy, sister-in-law Noreen, nephew, nieces, extended family and many friends in Ireland and England."
Tributes from family and friends have been flooding in since the awful news broke last week with many describing him as a great "character" and a "gentleman."
His former soccer club in Rhode, led the tributes. They said: "Rip Stephen, you will always have a soft spot in our hearts. One of the best players we ever had and key to us winning our only league. You became a very special friend to all of us, we will miss you deeply. Sincere condolences to Regan, Jack and all his family and many friends. Till we meet again, Stevo's ball. Memories that last us a lifetime. From all at your former club, Rhode Celtic FC."
Another former colleague added: "My sincere condolences to Stephen's sons, his mother and all the family. I worked with Stephen on the LUAS Cross City. I always found Stephen to be hardworking and always had a smile on his face. He was a great character who will be deeply missed by all his friends and anyone that crossed his path through his short life.
Rest in peace, my man, great to have met you."
A third added: "My deepest condolences to the Kelly family on the untimely passing of Stephen. Met Stephen while he was working in Athlone, enjoying pints and putting a few bets on the horses. Talked a lot about his boys who he adored."
Funeral details are not yet available.
