'A true Irishman' - Tributes paid as father-of-two killed after car mounts pavement outside UK pub

The family of a much-loved Irish dad who was killed when a car mounted the pavement and hit him as he sat outside a pub have paid tribute to a "devoted husband, a proud father, a loving son" and "true Irishman".

Aiden Perris, 47, was struck by a car in Birmingham at around 10.20pm on Thursday, July 25. Aiden leaves behind a wife and two young sons, aged 11 and 15.

His brother Darrin wrote on Facebook that a car "mounted the pavement where he was sitting having a drink". A second man was injured and a woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving was later released under investigation.

Aiden's devastated family paid tribute, saying Aiden showed them the "value of hard work" and would be remembered for the "caring, funny and selfless person" that he was.

A balloon left at the scene among tributes from Aiden's son read: "To dad, don't be sad that you don't get to see us but you're in a better place now and God is always watching over us." His family said: "As a family, we cannot begin to explain how utterly heartbroken the events of Thursday night have left us.

A fundraiser for the family has so far raised over €12,000.

The GoFundMe page states: “On Thursday, July 25, Aiden was tragically taken from us far to soon on what should have been a normal night out.

"This tragic accident has left a massive void for all that know and love Aiden but especially his beloved Vicki, Liam and George.
