A pair of drivers were issued fines and penalty points after gardaí utilised their unmarked lorry to catch them using their phones while driving.
While gardaí were out on patrol in their unmarked heavy goods vehicle (HGV), two drivers "spotted swiping on their phones" while behind the wheel.
Both drivers were fined €120 and issued with three penalty points, gardaí confirmed in a post on social media.
"Gardaí in Cork City have been out in our unmarked HGV detected drivers using their phones while driving.
"The drivers of both of these cars were fined €120 and issued with three penalty points for being spotted swiping on their phones."
Gardaí announced the addition of new unmarked HGVs last year as part of its efforts to reduce fatal and serious injuries in road traffic accidents and protect vulnerable road users by detecting distracted drivers.
The HGVs are used by Roads Policing Units across the country as part of 'Operation IOMPAR' which will provide targeted enforcement on dual-carriageways and motorways.
