Man posing as County Council worker arrested for burglary, trespass and criminal damage

A man was arrested a short distance away from the scenes

Gardaí in New Ross Co Wexford have arrested and charged a male, in his 30s, following reports of burglaries in the area last Wednesday evening, May 14.

The suspect is believed to have approached homes while posing as a Wexford County Council worker and a man was arrested a short distance away from the scenes.
He has since been charged in connection with two counts of burglary, one count of trespass, and one count of criminal damage.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Wexford said, "We remind the public to remain vigilant and to always verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent public bodies before granting access to your home. If in doubt, contact the organisation directly or phone Gardaí."
Along with this, an official for the Wexford County Council said, "Residents should check identification cards of anyone presenting to houses as Council workers.
"There are many reasons you may be legitimately visited by someone working on behalf of the council, but be sure to ask for an ID from them, calling Wexford Council to confirm their identity if required.
"If you believe someone is falsely posing as a council worker or that someone is trying to gain entry under false pretences, call Gardaí on 999 and do not allow the person into your home," they concluded.
