LIVE: Met Éireann urges caution as Storm Amy weather warnings continue to come into effect

As Storm Amy continues to bear down on Ireland, Met Éireann has urged caution in the adverse conditions as weather warnings continue to go into effect nationwide throughout the day.

The national forecaster is warning that power outages are likely this weekend while travelling conditions will be 'very difficult and dangerous' in places over the coming days.

A status yellow wind warning for all of Ireland will come into effect from 12pm today and Met Éireann says the warnings for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will be upgraded to status orange from 2pm today until 10 pm.

Counties Galway and Kerry have also been issued a status yellow rain warning from 9 am until 3 pm Friday October 3.

Forecasters have warned that Storm Amy will bring near gale force winds to Ireland this weekend, explaining that: "severe and possibly damaging gusts will occur widely."

With a status red storm warning has been issued for coastal waters off the north west coast.

The warning will be in place from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head today from 2pm until 8pm.

They have advised that Storm Amy: "will bring heavy rainfall with strong winds expected on Friday. A number of warnings will be issued today, with updates as certainty increases." 

Met Éireann have warned that likely impacts of Storm Amy will be significant risks of flooding, dangerous travel conditions, debris and displaced objects, power outages and damage to power lines, fallen trees, surface water flooding and possible wave overtopping.
