The search for a 66-year-old man who was reported missing more than five days ago was stood down on Monday evening following the tragic discovery of a body.
Padraig Dooley was reported missing from Charlestown, county Mayo on Wednesday April 1, 2026 and was described as being approximately 5 foot 9 inches in height, of strong build, with black hair.
When last seen, Padraig was wearing a dark coloured fleece, tan trousers, a high visibility vest and black shoes on the morning of Wednesday April 1, 2026, in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon.

In a heartbreaking update on Monday evening, Gardaí said,
"Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Padraig Dooley (66), who was reported missing from Charlestown, Co. Mayo since Wednesday 1st April 2026, has been stood down.
"An Garda Síochána would like to thank the public for their assistance."
