Santa arrives.

It’s that time of the year again when thoughts turn to lighting up Abbeyleix for the festive season.

Everyone loves to see the town looking so well but did you know that replacing broken bulbs every year costs upwards of €1,000 and that’s just for starters.

The transformers are €65 each and the electricity bill is in the region of €500 for the 8 weeks or so that the lights are on. To help with these costs a church gate collection will take place at Masses in Abbeyleix on Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27. It is also hoped that a bucket collection will be held soon.

The Christmas Lights volunteers, who work extremely hard year after year, are very grateful to all those who help out with the massive effort required and would love to have new people involved.

So, if you can spare an hour or two to help with a bucket collection, want to donate to the lights fund or want to get involved in any other way please contact Paula at 085-1469163
