Laois Christmas shoppers should expect delays in Newbridge following reported bank raid

Laois Christmas shoppers thinking of heading to Newbridge today should take note of heacy traffic delays in the town.

There are unconfirmed reports of a bank raid at Bank of Ireland in Newbridge this morning.

There are reports that cash in transit van was reportedly rammed and robbed in an incident on the Main Street.

The incident caused long traffic delays through Newbridge this morning, and there was a heavy garda presence in the area.

Leinster Leader in Kildare is reporting that eyewitnesses report seeing patrol cars, armed and unmarked units in the town at around 9am. The garda helicopter was also flying over the town at around that time. 

Gardaí confirmed that they attended a bank on Main Street, Newbridge this morning in connection with a report of a security alert. The Garda units left the scene shortly afterwards as all was in order.
