'Unsightly' tourist attraction in need of clean up says Laois councillor

The road leading up to The Catholes in Ballyfin needs to be repaired and the unused reservir needs to be cleaned up according to Cllr David Goodwin.

Laois County Council has said that the site is the responsibility of Irish Water since 2014 and that it will seek proposals from Irish Water for Environmental and safety enhancements in the area.

"This is a very unsightly object in a strtegic tourist area. It is a disgrace because as far as the public is concerned it is the responsibility of Laois County Council," Cllr Goodwin said.

Cllr Goodwin raised the issue and the recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.

As part of the notice of motion, he requested repairs be carried out on the road leading up to The Catholes in Ballyfin. Laois County Council gave no responce to this part of the motion but requested to meet Cllr Goodwin to discuss the road further.
