Community spirit was very much to the fore early Friday morning when a 11-year old boy had to be rushed to hospital during the height of the blizzard.
The young boy took seriously ill at his home in Clough early Friday morning.
An ambulance was called but, due to the terrible conditions, was only able to get as far as Granstown.
At this stage a local man offered assistance, transporting the first responders team in his 4x4 jeep to a crossroads outside Clough village.
Due to snow drifts the jeep was unable to travel any further, at which stage a local farmer pulled the vehicle with his tractor to the family's home.
The young boy received assistance was was subsequently taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise where he is reported to be doing well.
