There are reports that gardai are investigating the discovery of a body in County Carlow.

It is suspected the man may have died during the severe drop in temperature during Storm Emma during the week.

Independent.ie has reported that while details are still emerging, there are indications that he may have suffered hypothermia.

The discovery of the body comes as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said last night that he fears people may be found dead in their homes after Storm Emma.

Ann Dunne from Portarlington Social Services is concerned for the welfare of very isolated residents around the area, as the snow melts.

“I could see a possibility of finding people who have died, hopefully there are no fatalities,” she said.
