Huge housing development planned for Laois town to benefit school

Planning permission has been sought for a big housing development in Stradbally town which will also benefit the nearby national school.

Langville Properties Ltd intends to apply for permission to develop 72 houses on an almost 10 acres site in Stradbally near St Colman’s National School.

The site of the development is bounded to the north by Church Lane, Church Avenue and residential housing, the east and south by agricultural land and the west by St Colman’s National School and the rear gardens of existing houses facing onto Main Street, Stradbally.

The development includes 8 two-storey two bedroom terrace houses, 30 two-storey three bedroom terrace houses, 14 two-storey three bedroom semi-detached houses, 16 two-storey semi-detached four bedroom houses and four two-storey detached four bedroom houses.

There will also be public open space areas, 159 car parking spaces, new access for cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

St Colman's NS is set to benefit from the development with a new school car park adding 40 spaces on to the existing car park connected to existing school yard.

Two additional playing pitches at St Colman’s NS are also in the development plans.

The overall development will also include a new ESB substation, boundary treatments, hard and soft landscaping treatments, internal streets, footpaths and cycle paths.

The planning application may be inspected or purchased at Laois County Council offices during opening hours.
