WATCH: Gardai prepared to close busy Portlaoise road as Dublin GAA fans set to descend

Gardai in Portlaoise may be forced to close Main Street, Portlaoise this Sunday.

A huge crowd of GAA fans are expected to descend on Portlaoise this weekend as Dublin take on Wicklow in the Leinster GAA Senior Football Championship.

While the match is fixed for 4:00pm at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise, gardai have notified Laois County Council that they may decide to close Main Street, Portlaoise to traffic from 11am onwards.

Gardai are anticipating huge crowds for the match based on past experience it is likely that throngs of supports, particularly Dublin GAA fans, will line Main Street from early in the day.

This video by Kavanagh's Pub shows the crowd that took over the street last year when the Dubs played in O'Moore Park.
