BREAKING: Air ambulance called to scene of Laois crash

A man was seriously injured and airlifted to hospital following a crash on a busy back road in Portlaoise on Friday afternoon. 

The man was the sole occupant of the car that left the road on the stretch of the L2117 bog road at Kyletalesha, Portlaoise near the landfill.

Laois County Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene after it received a call at 01:30pm on Friday. 

Portlaoise and Mountmellick fire services, gardai and ambulance attended the scene. 

One male was removed from the car with very serious injuries and was transferred to hospital by the Aer Corps AC112 helicopter.

The road remains closed while the Gardai carry out a technical examination of the scene.
