Laois Rose Grainne Hogan is holding a fundraiser for Embrace farm charity
The 2018 Laois Rose Grainne Hogan is bravely offering herself as a dinner date to raise money for the Embrace Charity.
Tickets at €10 are flying out for a chance to enjoy a dinner out with the lovely Grainne, a qualified full-time farmer in Laois.
The lucky winner will be chosen at a fun night out in Sheeran's Pub Coolrain, Grainne's Sponsor, this Friday August 3.
The night promises lots of other prizes to be won, and a chance to meet with other Roses there in support of Grainne, as well as several former Laois Roses. Entertainment and refreshments are also in store.
"Let's get out and support our Laois Rose Grainne and her endeavours representing us proud Laois people," urges proprietor Lar Hogan.
Grainne is looking forward to both the fundraiser night and her date night.
"Lar came up with this idea, and I can't wait, it's all about a bit of fun, and getting together for a great charity," she said.
Embrace charity supports families affected by farming accidents.
"It's a charity I always wanted to help and this year as Laois Rose I have that platform to raise both funds and awareness of them. Working on a farm every day I can see how an accident can so easily happen," she told the Leinster Express.
She is looking forward to her date night too, which is not quite as daunting as it sounds.
"Whoever wins can take a date, and I can take a date too. Wherever they are from, we will find a restaurant nearby. It's all a bit of fun," Grainne said.
Working as a full-time dairy farmer, the recent drought was a challenge.
"There is not really grass, but that's mother nature, we have to figure a way around it. The water was fine in our area but rivers are very low. Everyone is complaining about the rain now but I think it's a great thing," she said.
Tomorrow Thursday August 2 is a big day on the Rose Calender, a visit to the Galway Races for Ladies Day. Grainne is all set thanks to Laois businesses.
"My dress is kindly sponsored by Fifty Seven Boutique in Portarlington, and my hat is by Pamela Curtin milliner. It's my first time to Galway Races, I'll be ditching the wellies for a hat," she said with a smile.
Tickets are on sale from Sheeran's pub, and from Manor Stone Ballacolla and Manor Stone Service Station at Junction 3 on the M8 motorway. Also on sale on the night. Proceeds towards Embrace, and Grainne's week at the Rose of Tralee.
