Healthcare company B Braun is set to create up to 20 jobs in Portlaoise with the announcement of plans to build a Renal Care Centre in Portlaoise.
This comes as the company recently applied to Laois County Council for planning permission to build the facility.
B Braun says the new kidney dialysis centre in Portlaoise will ease the burdens of travel and cost for patients who currently go to Tullamore or South Dublin for treatment.
The medical centre will be located in the Lismard Business Park in Portlaoise. As part of the HSE tender process a patient mapping exercise took place, which determined the need for a satellite haemodialysis clinic in the region.
Wellstone Midlands Renal Care Centre is being developed on a green field site, will be 800m squared and at full capacity, will care for 60 patients.
Braun says 'travel time and cost for patients will be significantly reduced for those currently travelling to Tullamore and South County Dublin for treatment'.
Liam Ferguson is the Regional Head Western Europe at B Braun Avitum.
“Our Model of Dialysis Care places the needs of the patient centre stage and recognises the relationship between the staffing model and improved patient outcomes.
“We are able to transfer our core beliefs into meaningful outcomes, improving patients’ lives and making their care more efficient," he said.
The development of this unit will increase the number of B Braun Renal Care Centres in Ireland to three, including the long established Wellstone Clinic Galway, Co Galway and the Wellstone Wexford Renal Care Centre, Co Wexford which opened in January 2018.
B Braun Avitum operates in more than 350 centres in over 30 countries around the world.
The company employs 62,000 staff in 64 countries. In 2017, the Group generated €6.789 billion in sales.
