Mum and child injured in Laois crash.

A child her mother were injured in the crash which claimed the life of a man in Laois.

In an update, Garda HQ confirmed that an investigation is underway into the fatal road traffic collision on Tuesday, November 6 on the N80 on Simmons Mill Cross Road between Portlaoise and Carlow.

The two car collision occurred shortly before 9am. 

HQ confirmed earlier report that the driver of one care, a man in his 40s, was fatally injured. Garda HQ also said that the occupants of the other car were a woman and her child.

They are reported to have received minor injuries and were taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and Crumlin Children's Hospital. 

The road at the scene of the incident is currently closed to facilitate an examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Investigations are ongoing.
