Crash on M7 in Laois as Gardaí warn of 'slushy' road conditions in Portlaoise after Storm Freya

There are reports of another crash on the Dublin to Limerick M7 motorway in Laois on Monday morning following multiple crashes and hours of delays on Sunday.

The crash is on the M7 southbound between the M8 junction and J21 Borris-in-Ossory. Caution is advised on approach.

AA Roadwatch has reported icy or slushy conditions, particularly in Kildare, Laois and north Tipperary.

"Gardai say there are slushy conditions around Portlaoise," AA has said.

Icy conditions were reported around Stradbally, on the N80 and the N78 but conditions have improved in Abbeyleix.

Laois commuters also faced icy and slippery roads between Newbridge and Naas on Monday morning.

The Office of Public Works decided to close Emo Court and Parklands on Monday due to road conditions. Laois County Council has closed the landfill at Kyletalesha.

"Unfortunately due to dangerous icy conditions and in the interest of public safety the Portlaoise public tipping area and civic amenity site will remain closed this morning.

"While staff continue to treat snow and ice at the landfill there has not been much of a thaw and we intend to continue the closure to 1pm, at which time we will reassess the situation."

it is understood that St Francis School in Portlaoise is closed today but all other schools remain open.
