Laois fire service and gardai attended the scene of a fire in Portlaoise around lunchtime on Monday.
The fire 'travelled quickly' due to dry hedges according to Laois fire service. The hedge ran along the back of a row of houses near Ashley Gardens, Borris Road, Portlaoise and multiple fire units from Stradbally and Portlaoise attended the scene.
A number of sheds caught fire and a significant amount of damage is understood to have been done to the sheds and machinery.
Padraic Keely, Assistant Chief Fire Officer in Laois County Fire and Rescue Service said the fire travelled quickly.
"It is not certain where the fire started but due to the vegetation being very dry currently the fire travelled quickly burning hedges and grass.
"Domestic sheds were damaged as a result of the fire and there was some machinery damage also. Fire Crews did excellent to contain the fire and prevent any further damage.
"I’d like to remind people to be extra vigilant this week with the warmer drier weather in store and please call 999/112 and ask for the Fire Brigade at the first sign of a fire," he said.
It is understood that no injuries have been reported and gardaí are investigating.
