A Laois GAA club has applied to Laois County Council for planning permission to install lighting at its grounds in Durrow.
The Harps GAA Club has lodged an application seeking permission to erect lighting around the walking track at its grounds on Swan Road, Durrow, along with associated site works.
The proposed development forms part of the club’s wider five-year development plan aimed at improving playing, training and spectator facilities.
In a supporting letter submitted with the application to the local authority, the club outlined that a number of works have already been completed as part of that long-term plan. These include the installation of perimeter spectator fencing around the pitch and walking track, re-grading works to accommodate the new layout, the installation of an underground water tank to facilitate an irrigation system, and the construction of new entrance walls at the grounds.
The club also confirmed that further developments are planned in the coming years, including the construction of a spectator stand on the west side of the grounds and the upgrading of the existing dressing rooms. The Harps stated that these elements will be the subject of separate planning applications in due course, with some works requiring retention permission and others full planning permission. According to the submission, the works already carried out were completed to meet grant deadlines, while all remaining proposed developments will be applied for before construction begins, alongside applications to retain works already completed.

The current application relates solely to the installation of lighting along the existing walkway created as part of the spectator fencing works.
The planning application may be inspected or purchased at the offices of Laois County Council during public opening hours. The Council may grant permission with or without conditions, or refuse permission.
