Portlaoise District Court
A man admitted burgling a shed and stealing tools in Portlaoise.
Andis Radzis (21) of 24 Rathevan Heights, Portlaoise, burgled a shed at Borris Little, Portlaoise on June 9 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said a power washer valued at €200, a drill valued at €70 and a planer valued at €200 were stolen. The defendant was found on the Borris Road in possession of the tools which were recovered, he told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Sgt Kirby described the matter as “a nasty incident for the injured party” and said the defendant had no previous convictions.
Judge Susan Fay said “this was a nasty, nasty offence. I know it was not the house but a shed at the rear or near property is a significant invasion” of privacy.
Judge Fay said she had to take the guilty plea and lack of previous convictions into account. She sentenced the defendant to four months and suspended the sentence for two years.
