A man remained in custody as it was unclear whether his agreed bail was set at €1,000 or €10,000.

Conor Nolan (25) of 26 Kearney’s Drive, Tullamore, Co Offaly,  is accused of having drugs for sale or supply at St Brigid’s Place, Portlaoise on March 2 last.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant was brought before a special court sitting where Judge Andrew Cody set bail with certain conditions.

“It is a very recent case and we don’t have directions”, Sgt Kirby told Judge Susan Fay.

David Nugent BL said his client, who was appearing via video link, had been remanded in custody with consent to bail.

“Can I get bail by any chance?” the defendant asked Mr Nugent.

“Have you got a grand?” Mr Nugent asked. The defendant said he did.

Judge Fay said “I have independent surety in the sum of €10,000”.

“We will have to get clarification on that as we are €9,000 apart”, Mr Nugent replied.

He asked Judge Fay to adjourn the matter to Tullamore District Court on Wednesday in order to establish whether the surety had been set at €10,000 or €1,000.

“Try to get it to a thousand not ten thousand”, the defendant said to Mr Nugent.

Judge Fay said her colleague Judge Cody was very precise in his note taking.  “He is very precise and there is a comma there after the number ten”, she told Mr Nugent.

She adjourned the matter to Tullamore District Court on March 11 by video link in order to determine whether the surety was fixed at €1,000 or €10,000.
