Call to repaint yellow lines blocking parking at Portlaoise housing estates

Double yellow lines

Two housing estates in a Laois town are getting their double yellow lines repainted, to remind motorists that it is illegal to park on their roadsides at any time.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald asked for the works in Portlaoise, on behalf of her neighbours in Cherrygarth on the Abbeyleix Road and in The Hermitage housing estate on the Borris Road.

The first estate is a favourite for GAA fans in O'Moore Park to illegally park, while the second is next to Scoil Chríost Rí and St Mary's CBS secondary schools, with parents parking in the estate a regular problem.

She tabled a motion to the March meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, requesting yellow lines at Cherrygarth, and refreshing yellow lines at The Hermitage, and "install a white linke at the entrance".

In reply, the Portlaoise MD officials have agreed to refresh road markings at both estates.

"That's great, thank you," Cllr Fitzgerald said.
